Goal, assist from bench
Saliba recorded one goal on three shots (one on target) and one assist on two chances created in Thursday's 6-0 win over Qatar.
Analysis: Saliba would enter the field in the 57th minute Thursday after the horrific injury to Ismael Kone (leg), earning a solid 33 minutes off the bench. He would have an exceptional match once on the field, first scoring a great free kick in the 56th minute before an assist on Jonathan David's 92nd-minute goal. Saliba does this all after he went unused last match, a great World Cup debut for the 22-year-old. He will now likely be tasked with a bigger role after the apparent leg break for Kone, so it is a good sign to see the midfielder getting involved immediately.
Plays 120 minutes
Saliba (undisclosed) started and played for 120 minutes in Thursday's 3-1 loss to Union St. Gilloise.
Analysis: Saliba has been out for just over a week after a training injury, but returned to play Thursday, not just seeing the field but playing the full 20 minutes after the match went into extra time. This is good news for the midfielder as he prepares for the World Cup with Canada, appearing to be at full health already. He will now just have another month to keep his fitness high, likely to be a starter for the Canadian squad.
