Swings in two crosses against Tunisia
Nygren (ankle) created one scoring chance and registered two crosses (one accurate), two successful take-ons and two corners in Sunday's 5-1 win against Tunisia.
Analysis: Nygren got the call over Lucas Bergvall and Anthony Elanga after overcoming a mild ankle sprain but was only a minor factor on offense and was dispossessed three times before being replaced at the 65th minute. He'll have to perform at a high level to retain the starting job, given the competition. He scored four goals and dished out one assist in 10 Europa League fixtures with Celtic in 2025/2026.
Injury not serious
Nygren (ankle) isn't a major doubt for the World Cup opener according to Swedish assistant Sebastian Larsson."We have been together all pre-camp and had various training and matches. With the travel day yesterday, it's all about getting the guys together. It's nothing to worry about, absolutely not."
Analysis: Nygren sparked some worry about his availability to open the tournament when he was forced off with an ankle issue, but it doesn't appear the injury is that serious. The forward should be fit and ready to go for the opener, where he's expected to play a key role for the Swedish side in his first World Cup.
