Scores but earns suspension

Mokoena will miss South Africa's third group stage fixture against South Korea on June 24 in Monterrey after picking up his second yellow card of the tournament in the 34th minute of the clash against the Czech Republic. He also scored the team's lone goal with a penalty in the second half.

Analysis: Mokoena was booked for a late tackle on Vladimir Coufal, triggering an automatic suspension after having already received a yellow card in the opening group stage match against Mexico. He still made his presence felt in this game, however, scoring a key penalty down the stretch to keep the Bafana Bafana's qualifying chances alive with one game left for them in the group stage. His absence will be a significant blow for coach Hugo Broos heading into a crucial fixture that could determine South Africa's chances of progressing from Group A, with the midfielder one of the key figures in the Bafana Bafana engine room. The disciplinary concerns are compounded by the fact that Sphephelo Sithole and Themba Zwane were also suspended for the Czech Republic match, highlighting a growing problem with discipline that could prove costly at a critical stage of the tournament.

Sends two crosses in loss

Mokoena recorded two crosses (zero accurate) and one chance created in Thursday's 2-0 defeat against Mexico. In addition, he was given a yellow card in the 17th minute.

Analysis: Mokoena had to play with caution after being booked in the 17th minute, but the central midfielder still made an impact as a playmaker via his peripheral stats. That said, South Africa barely posted a threat going forward, so Mokoena struggled to make a big impact from a fantasy perspective outside of his two crosses and one chance created. Since South Africa will be without Sphephelo Sithole (suspended) for the next match, expect Mokoena to remain in the lineup.
